    Christmas or Xmas

    Christmas Tree by scottfidd.

Had a very interesting conversation last week with George (never met him before). George and I both agreed and troubled with the way we celebrate Christmas. Christmas has become a gold mine for business people, and for the rest, a glorified excuse for indulgence rather than a HOLY-day. Every year we celebrate 2 Holidays on the 25th of December. One is called ‘Christmas’ and the other we call ‘Xmas’:

Which one are celebrating this year. The one with ‘Christ’ or the one with the X.

Hi Lui, I know this comment is a little late but still relevant. About 20 years ago I was became painfully aware that Christmas was more about business than Christ. It was when Christmas fell on a Sunday and I wanted to know why we had to go to church on Christmas day. Before I could get it out of my mouth I saw the flaw in my thinking.

On the term Xmas, there are many people who relate that as taking the Christ out of Christmas.

Good post, should make people think.

    Reason for the Season

I used to quote a popular phrase “Jesus is the Reason for the Season”

Isa. 9:6 “FOR UNTO US A CHILD IS BORN, UNTO US A SON IS GIVEN: AND THE GOVERNMENT SHALL BE UPON HIS SHOULDER: AND HIS NAME SHALL BE CALLED WONDERFUL, COUNSELOR, THE MIGHTY GOD, THE EVERLASTING FATHER, THE PRINCE OF PEACE.
After studying this verse on Saturday, I came to the conclusion that ‘WE are the reason for the season’.

‘For unto US a child is born. Unto US a Son is given…..”

Jesus came because of US. He came to save US. He came to reconcile US back to the Father. If it wasn’t for our sins, there wouldn’t have been any Christmas.

We are the reason for the season.
